Womenade

Womanade I am so inspired by this organization I just heard about on this show Real Simple.  It's called Womanade.  In a nutshell, the organization was started by a Washington DC doctor who treated people in homeless shelter.  She found that a lot of the patients did not have money for prescriptions etc.  The need was sort of small, to her anyway, for instance she had a patient whom she wrote $17 worth of prescriptions for and he only had $11.   Out of the kindness of her heart she would give patients the few dollars that they needed.   As you can imagine a few dollars here and a few dollars there began to build up, so a friend of hers had a potluck dinner and asked women to donate funds.  The potlucks were held twice a year and attended by 100 women and these women were raising about $4,000 per dinner!  Not only that, but women around the country caught on and started chapters around the country.

I am soo inspired by this idea, I had to pass it on.   I think it is even a cool idea for the 4th of July, as you invite people ask them to bring a few dollars to donate to a cause.   Very simple way to get your friends involve in giving back.
